Brant A. Bailey is head of Wills, Trusts, Estate Planning and Probate Department. He has 20 yearsexperience in this area of law. Besides holding a JD degree, Brant also holds an LLM in taxation, which is an advanced law degree. In addition, Brant has been practicing adoption law for 17 years and he has represented both adoptive parents and birth parents.
Brant was raised in Pinellas County. He graduated from Largo High School. He then attended and graduated from the University of Georgia. While at the University of Georgia, Brant was selected for membership in Sigma Delta Pi the Political Science Honorary Society. He also, earned All SEC recognition as a full scholarship varsity tennis player. Before attending law school he achieved World, National and State Open Men’s rankings. While in law school, he excelled in Moot Court Competition, winning both writing and oral argument awards. Before attending tax school, he practiced for five years as a civil, criminal and administrative trial and appellate lawyer mostly as a government lawyer. For instance, during this time he worked as a law clerk for the Second District Court of Appeal and as an Assistant State Attorney for the Tenth Judicial Court. This early litigation experience has helped him to better counsel clients about the consequences of proposed courses of action.
His entrance into the probate and estate practice began when he entered an LLM program in taxation. While obtaining this advanced law degree, Brant also worked as a research attorney for the IRS Regional Appeals Office in St. Louis, MO. After obtaining his LLM, Brant worked in the private practice of law for 3 years here at BRDW in our Estate and Tax department before opening his own law practice.
During his private practice of law experience, Brant has taught Tax Planning at Stetson College of Law, various Business Law and Taxation courses at Clearwater Christian College and an Ethics course at St. Petersburg College. He has recently authored an article and lectured on Florida Will Drafting for the National Business Institute.
He has also, published an article on Adoption Law. In addition, he has written a number of articles for the Paraclete. The Paraclete is the St. Petersburg Bar Association’s monthly magazine.
Brant has also been active in the local bar. For example, he has co-chaired The Solo, Small Practice and Office Management Section of the St. Petersburg Bar. In addition, he has been a long time member of the Probate Guardianship Section of the St. Petersburg Bar. And finally, Brant has been a long time member of the Florida Bar’s Estate and Trust Income section.
Brant enjoys community services. He especially
enjoys participating in the local ministry of Grace
Bible Church (GBC). He has been a member for 20
years and was an Elder for 12 years. Besides
participating in its leadership and its music ministry,
he has administered a minority and disabled scholarship
fund for GBC for many years. He has also been on
several non-profit boards including the Pine Bayou
Academy and the Suncoast Hospital Foundation. Furthermore, he presently serves as Secretary of the
Youth Tennis Foundation. And finally, Brant is a
FHSAA Basketball Official.
Brant is married to Analyn Ruth Bailey, his wife of
25 years. They have four children.
