Stephen J. Wein is a Shareholder and has been with the firm for over 20 years. Mr. Wein is the Chairman of the Litigation Department and a member of the Firm's Executive Committee. He is a 1976 graduate of Stetson University College of Law.
Steve's extensive litigation experience has been diverse, ranging from Complex Commercial to White Collar Criminal matters on behalf of and against public and private companies, financial institutions, insurance companies and professionals. The representations have dealt with a wide gamut of legal issues involving securities, antitrust, class actions, computers and software, healthcare fraud and reimbursement and sex and age discrimination. Additionally, he has handled corporate governance, partnerships, professional liability and director and officer liability matters, as well as trust, probate and real estate litigation and commercial transactions. Mr. Wein has represented clients in arbitration and administrative disputes, as well as in trial and appellate courts throughout the United States.
As Chairman of the Litigation Department, Steve is involved with developing legal strategies, as well as supervising the daily activities of the department. His ability to analyze a problem, determine the legal options and develop a cohesive litigation strategy for the client and his or her business has resulted in the successful resolutions of difficult cases.
Mr. Wein also practices in the areas of Intellectual Property Law. He heads all major litigation that results from the practice of Intellectual Property Law. Steve has enjoyed success in cases involving patent infringement, trademark and trade dress violations and other intellectual property matters.
His additional responsibilities include chairing the firm's Library and Technology committees. He is past Chairman of the St. Petersburg Bar Association Bench and Bar Committee, a past member of the Code and Rules of Evidence Committee of the Florida Bar , and a member of various local, state and national legal organizations. Mr. Wein has lectured on assorted legal topics to various legal and professional groups, including the National Association of Bank Servicers and is listed in "Who's Who in American Law." His 1992 Florida Bar Journal article, Failed Financial Institutions: The Plight of Professionals Defending Regulators' Claims, was a finalist for the Barbara Sanders Memorial Award for legal writing. Steve is also active in the community having served as President of the Jewish Federation of Pinellas County, President of the Pinellas County Jewish Day School and President of the Cardozo Society, as well as an officer and director of other community agencies, such as the Menorah Manor Nursing Home.
